User Research
To explore and understand potential users and their requirements, we conducted a series of user research and market research in the early stage of design, in the form of questionnaires and focus groups.
Key Findings from the Questionnaire Survey
1) Potential customers
Potential users are between 20 and 35 years old, 70 percent of whom live in first-tier cities. Also, more than half of them have a family monthly income of 10,000-20,000 yuan.
2) Drivers for using
Thinking that renting is more cost-effective than buying, experimenting with more styles, and having different dress needs of various scenarios are the top three drivers for using.
3) Main usage scenarios
Daily commute, travel, and party are the top three scenarios in which users need to use fashion rental services.
4) Factors affecting apparel decisions
Users' choices of apparel are mainly affected by trends on social media, people around them, and celebrities.
Focus Groups and User Segmentation
According to the results of the questionnaire survey, women between the ages of 20 and 35 are the most willing to experiment with clothing rental services. So we invited 18 potential users in this age range and divided them into three focus groups by age. Here is a brief record of the characteristics of different groups:

Requirement Insights
Based on the analysis of findings from user research we summarized the following three main requirements when users using clothing rental services:
Target User & Personas
According to the results of the user research, our target users are women who live in first-tier and second-tier cities between the ages of 20 and 35, care about both dressing and cost performance, and love to experiment with different styles. We conducted personas to find more about our target users.
Design and Refine
Wireframe & Flowchart
Before we started the visual design of the user interface, we iterated a lot of versions of the wireframe and interaction flow. This process helped us quickly modify the solution through trial and error as well as plan the low-fidelity prototype of the functional layout.
Prototype & Usability Test
Based on the wireframes and interaction flows, three rounds of usability testing were conducted with clickable prototypes to evaluate our solutions. A total of 32 potential users were invited. The user feedback obtained at this stage has a lot of guidance on some details of the user interface design as well as the adjustment of some interaction processes.
User Interface Design
1. Style Research and Guidelines
In terms of interfaces, we conducted a series of user research which took the form of user interviews and focus groups, to help us understand users' expectations on the UI design and what layout and visual style can give them a better experience.
According to the results of brand positioning and design research, we formulated the scope and guide of style, which was refined in three main aspects, namely emotion, techniques, and tone.
